Frequently Asked Questions
What is Origami? Origami is the art of paper folding. It is the magic of turning a simple square of paper into a frog, a flower or a fish - without tape or glue or scissors. The word Origami is Japanese and comes from “oru,” which means “to fold” and “kami,” which means “paper.“
Amusement for all ages, origami can be done anywhere you have a scrap of paper - an airplane, a waiting room or a dining table.
Why take a class? Like everything, origami is best learned by doing - rather than by reading from a book.
Cognitive benefits? Origami builds spatial sense and an understanding of symmetry - skills vital to the development of intuitive thought. It is beneficial mental stimulation for any age.
Emotional benefits? Through following the steps in making origami, children learn patience and gain self-esteem. And origami works well for cooperative learning - even among different age groups.
What is the cost? Group classes for children or adults are $6 per hour per student. Materials included. Minimum of 7 students. Individual classes are also available.
Where are classes held? Classes are usually held at your organization.
