Description: Scene of the Fontana Maggiore and the Palazzo dei Priori in the center of Perugia, Italy, an Etruscan walled city built on a hill. Perugia is sister cities with Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The statue in the Fontana Maggiore is made from Perugina Baci silver wrappers. The bell in the tower above the Palazzo dei Priori is made from the wrapper of a dark Perugina chocolate and shows a gold griffin, the mascot of the Perugina chocolate company and of the city of Perugia. The statues above the main entrance to the Palazzo dei Priori are a griffin and a lion. The people in the square and on the steps are made with Japanese yuzen papers -- each of them invented origami from 1 square of paper.

History: This square is in the center of Perugia and is a favorite destination for an evening stroll, passaggiata. The Palazzo dei Priori in this square is from the 15th century and has at its entrance a lion and a griffin, the emblem of Perugia. The Fontana Maggiore was designed in 1278.  Perugia is famous for its chocolates and is home to the annual European Chocolate festival every October. One of its famous chocolate companies, Perugina, has as its symbol the Griffin, and is best known for its silver/blue Baci round bite-size hazelnut chocolates.
